This is what the store means to the people who live here.
An Essential Community Lifeline Since 1868
Located over an hour from the nearest town, the store in our little rural community functions as essential infrastructure for this remote region as well as serving many tourists and day trippers as they come to bask in the wild beauty of the Lost Coast.
From Private Ownership to Community Stewardship
The current owner is ready to retire and sell the Petrolia Store.
Despite its essential role, no private buyers have stepped forward.
100+ members have formed a consumer cooperative with hopes to acquire and operate the store as a permanent community asset.
Our vision is to continue to be a thriving and resilient community hub supporting local, sustainable businesses while meeting the essential needs of residents and visitors of the Mattole Valley and the Lost Coast.
